2021 Summit at a Glance
In 2021, the advisory team of GIoCT released a Creativity Curriculum Development Handbook that offers guidance to schools that plan to promote creative thinking and innovation on their campus. The handbook offers step-by-step support to teachers and school managers in introducing curriculum change, pedagogical practices in the classroom, and assessment on creativity, with follow-up workshops and remote communications to facilitate schools to learn and use the handbook.
This year also witnessed the progress made by local schools in Shanghai and Jiading, as they start to draw their own creativity roadmap and form creative alliances of schools.
The summit of this year focused on the theme of District-level Design of Creativity for Schools, sharing practice and experience in leveraging district resources to support creative learning at schools.
- How does creative learning benefit the school, the local community and the industries?
- Creativity Curriculum Development Handbook: how to empower schools?
What are the advantages and challenges schools usually face when designing creative courses?
Aims
- To share best practices from Jiading and Pudong, the two pilot districts of Creative Lab initiative
- To discuss what roles the local authority and school alliance play in curriculum innovation
- To emphasize the importance of building staff capacity to ensure positive changes can be sustainable.
Impact
Schools from Jiading and Pudong, as the two pilot districts of Creative Lab initiative, have come up with their bespoke preliminary creative thinking models, embedded with local features.
The summit called for the publication of the first-ever case study of creative projects at schools, which will feature the best practice and lessons learned from over 30 member schools. This will be a key piece of work overseen by GIoCT advisory board in the coming year.
